Every once in a while we hear something on the radio that we think to ourselves... "This doesn't fit here." or, "This ain't country."

It's not country compared to what we first fell in love with when we fell in love with Country. But then, I am sure someone raised on the Country music of the 1920's would say the same thing about Johnny Cash when they first heard him, or even Hank Williams for that matter.

Music of ALL genres is ever changing. Rock and Roll isn't at all what I listened to in the 70's and 80's. Going from the clean cut Elvis Presley to what the bands started looking and sounding like in the 80's... WOW! Yes, I loved 70's and 80's rock! I still do. I don't think it will ever go back to C, Am, F and G again... We'll just have to relish those old records to keep that music alive from back then.
The same goes for Country music. It's great to hold onto the music we love and it's great that there are still people inspired by those beautiful sounds of yesteryear. Don't let go of those memories. You can keep them alive in your heart, your CD collection and request them on your favorite radio station.

The cold hard truth is that Country music is evolving. Just like it evolved into what our ancestors didn't like, but we loved... it's evolving into what future generations will pass on to their futures as "the way it was when it was "real" country music."

I listen to a lot of music. The radio doesn't give me a choice of what I listen to, unless I change the station to??? I hear how music is changing. No, I don't like it all... or even most of it. But, if I am going to continue to work in this business, I am going to have to embrace it. The only other option is to install an 8 track player in my car. (For you that remember those).

Over the many years that I have been involved in Country music, I have seen a lot of people come and go. I have heard some great new stuff and worn out old stuff repeated by "new" artists. I came upon this young man calling himself Country. He was raised on some of the greatest country artists known to us like, Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, with writers like Kris Kristofferson and Emmy Lou Harris fueling his writing fire. Kane Harrison is just one of the many examples of the Country Music Evolution. If you listen, you'll hear it. You'll hear the roots of country music's yesteryear, then you'll also hear some of Country music's tomorrow.

Not only do I embrace this change in one of my true passions, Country Music, I challenge the next generation of singers and songwriters to keep on doing what they are doing. I challenge them to keep the spirit of Country music alive for us old farts and still pass on the legacy of the past to the future. Don't shy away from change, embrace it. Who we hear now may soon be the next Country Legend.

Oh, don't be afraid to leave a comment. If you don't agree, that's great... most of the time I don't always agree with you either.

Much Love,
